Latah and Whitman Counties physicians letter
Kootenai County physicians letter
The letter to the North Idaho Farmers Association
September 24, 2001
To the North Idaho Farmers Association:
We, the undersigned physicians of Bonner County, feel the time has come to halt grass field burning. For too many years this practice has adversely affected the health of citizens in our community and in outlying areas. Each summer we have seen our patients with lung and upper respiratory ailments suffer from the heavy smoke produced by grass field burning.
We believe that farming is a most honorable profession. It is unconscionable, however, to permit the economic interests of a handful of grass growers to take precedence over the health of thousands of citizens.
We are now calling for an immediate end to this health hazard. This medical community will no longer be silent on this subject. We will begin soliciting support from as many sources as possible to help us achieve this goal.
Signed,
